Prayer Request for our New President Elect

Ok – everyone – Our new president Buddy Pearce needs big time prayers starting right now! I am confident that he will come thru this with flying colors – but please keep him in your prayers!
Sandi McCormack

From: BETH PEARCE
Buddy has had a setback. There is another spot on his eye where the retina is detached. This one is worse than the first one. He will undergo outpatient surgery on Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. There is a 90% success rate with this surgery. They will fill the eye with a gas bubble at the end of the surgery. The most difficult part for Buddy will be that he has to sit with his head down (looking toward his lap) for one week afterward. We will miss the parades in Mt. Dora and Tavares, but hopefully, he will be healed enough that we will make it to the Christmas lunch at Lakeside Inn the following week. Please pray that he will be among the 90%!

Banquet Ticket Reminder!!!!

Hi Model A’ers,

For those of you who missed the Olympics this weekend – shame on you – it was so much fun! We had members of the Crankin A’s, Citrus A’s and Orlando A’s present and Rosemary fixed a GREAT spaghetti dinner!

Anyways – reason for my email is that normally at the November meeting I collect the monies for the Christmas Banquet, since I know there are several of you that plan to come to the Banquet who were not at the Olympics – I have to stress right now that I need all of you to put a check in the mail to me ASAP to reserve your tickets for the Banquet. Remember, this is the only have to RSVP meeting that we have per year. This one HAS to be paid for in advance or you don’t get to come :(. And trust me, it’s such a nice event, that you really don’t want to miss it! And this year, we ordered the nicer food package as well. And Van has lined up entertainment to be happening 'while we eat!'

I need you to write a check for $20 per person and on the check make a note as to what you want to eat:
1. Boneless Breast of Chicken Stuffed with Apples, Walnuts and Cornbread
2. Prime Rib of Beef Seasoned & Slow Roasted Choice Prime Rib Served with Au Jus
3. Filet of Salmon Seared with either a Fruit Buerre Blanc or Shrimp and Dill Sauce

Each served with side salad, bread, vegetable and coffee or tea

I have to let the restaurant know by the end of November how many people from our club plan to attend - and I have to go there and pay ahead of time. So please do not procrastinate and miss out! Mail your check to:

Saturday November 1st - Model A Olympics

On Your Mark, Get Set, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is your friendly reminder that this is the weekend that not only do we change our clocks back Saturday night, But more exciting than that this Saturday morning we have our Model A Olympics in Clermont at Bills Barn!
So make sure to put on your racing gloves and get that model A over to
12121 C W Harrell Road, Clermont, Fl. 34711
(½ mile past Hancock on John’s Lake road, on the right corner of John’s Lake Road and W. Harrell Road) and be ready to
RUMBLE!

REMEMBER these things as you prepare your house to leave and head to Clermont:
1. Did you pack a chair to sit on?
2. Did you pack your check book? Cause you need to buy your tickets to the Christmas Banquet this weekend!
3. Did you pack a $5 donation for each person to cover the cost of the huge spaghetti dinner that Rosemary has planned?
4. Did you bring your appetite for donuts and spaghetti? (not together LOL)
5. Are you going to make it to Clermont by 9:30ish?

Special Note – as you enter the property and pay your $5 donation (kind of like a ticket booth) then Bill would like you to sign a blanket waver as he is not the only owner of that property, and he is trying to protect the other owners who are not model A’ers. That waver will read something like this:
The persons whose names and signatures appear below fully understand that any activity carries with it a degree of risk of damage or harm to persons and property. In return for admittance to the property address above, the persons whose names appear below do accept responsibility for any such damage to their personal property or harm of any kind to their persons. These persons also agree to hold harmless the owners of the property at the address shown above for any reason including areas that may be construed as negligent.

Ok – Cant wait to see everybody this Saturday! If you know for sure that you are coming Saturday – please email me and let me know! floridamodela@embarqmail.com Its not an official RSVP, but Rosemary wants to be sure to have enough spaghetti! Thanks – Sandi

Message from our President while on vacation

Rosemary and I are really enjoying the cool weather in Michigan. It is supposed to be around 75 or so tomorrow with quite low humidity. You should see Rosemary feeding my son's cows and chickens. She has become a real farm hand. We are now in a little town called Homer, Michigan and are enjoying reconnecting with old friends. One of the big events in the little town that my son lives is is the balogna festival. Balogna is served in every imaginable way. Street races, etc. Well enough already, I'm looking forward to the comments from our overpaid Vice President. Bill

August Meeting is at Tale Chasers in Tavares!

Ok - BREAK is over! Time for a Meeting!
Hi all - we enjoyed the Tale Chaser restaurant after the parade on the 4th of July so much that we decided to have our August meeting there too!

So Saturday August 2nd at 10:45 we will be welcomed in to their dining room, we will have our meeting lead by Buddy Pearce and they will begin to take our orders at 11:30 for lunch. They are reserving all the parking places closest to the building just for us and are excited about having us there.

Tale Chasers Grille is located at the corner of 19 and 441 in Tavares.
Our of all of us who ate there on the 4th, I dont think anyone went away disappointed in the least! Very good food, and great service!
Of course as a restaurant they would love to know how many of you to expect, I gave them the regular line of somewhere around 40 people, but if you know you are going to come and enjoy Buddy Pearce leading our meeting, please send me a quick email and let me know! Just click here: floridamodela@embarqmail.com

Tom Sage visited Scotty in NY - here's his story

Most of you know member Scotty McLaughlin our famous Model A'er author.
I had the privilege of a 2 day visit with him and Brigid in mid July.
I was on a ride through New York state on my Harley and took him up on his offer to stop by his place in the Adirondack mountains.
Now when they say they live in the mountains, they really mean it.
The driveway up to their cabin is almost straight up for over 3/4 of a mile.
Their home is a beautiful log cabin in the center of 350 acres, as in the whole mountain top, with an breathtaking view of Lake George. I can see why they love it there.
Scotties Model A stable consists of his 29 fourdoor that he drove there from Astor,a nice 31 Pickup and a AA dump truck.
I just missed by 1 day being there to help celebrate his 80th birthday, but they did save me a leftover lobster.

Joining the National Clubs

I have been asked by a member to send her the links to joining the National Clubs online.
So I thought that if one member needed this information, someone else might too!

So Here are the two links to join the two National Clubs:

MARC
http://www.modelarestorers.org/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=151&Itemid=445

MAFCA
http://www.mafca.com/
Mafca's website is a bit more confusing than Marc - but you click that link and then on the left side of the screen - click MAFCA INFO - then on that screen click MEMBERSHIP
Then that will get you what you want.

Hope this helps!
Sandi

What and AWESOME Parade and Dinner last night!

We had 12 model A's show up for this parade, which is a GREAT turn out!

Then we had 21 members show up for dinner last night after the parade at Tale Chaser's Grille in Tavares. The restaurant rolled out the carpet with special AT the door parking with attendants. The wait staff was impeccable and the food was great.
As a matter of fact everyone there voted that we have our next meeting at the Tale Chasers! So I am trying to contact them now for that reservation.

Thank you to all the showed up at either event and hope to see ALL of you at the August meeting!

Also just a quick update on Mal Colby is that he is settled in at his new residence just outside of Pensacola, FL. As soon as we have his new address we will forward it on to all of you.

Need some Upholstery done on your Model A?

At our last meeting in Salt Springs we were introduced to a friend of Dick Ingram who has an upholstery business and who specializes in classic and antique car upholstery. LIVE OAK CARRIAGE & CAR SHOW
BY
BOB GRANT

Sponsored by the Kingdom of The Sun Region, AACA, five Heart of Florida Model A’s were seen chugging along to Ocala on Sunday,, March 30. Leading the group were Buddy and Beth Pearce, followed by Rod McVicar, Ron Unger, Bob Grant, and Bill McClelland. Bringing up the rear was our newest club members, Ron and Carla Schell in their shiny, new Chevy Pickup.(Both promise to bring their Model A down here this winter).

The Kingdom of The Sun Region sponsored a memorable show with some 140 beautiful and rare cars shown. The hospitality of the host club was outstanding; Donned in their 2008 T shirts picturing a 1906 Cadillac, the club members all waved and greeted the car’s occupants as we entered the field. The same hospitality was shown as we departed, waving and thanking us for coming. What a nice feeling to receive this kind of appreciation.

Judging was done by car participants selecting their choice of best of 10 catagories:
Class (Years) 1900-1925 1926-1930 1931-1935 1936-1940 1941-1950
1951-1955 1956-1960 1961-1965 1966-1970 1971-1975

Lovely, large, etched, heavy glass containers were given to the winner of each class. “Yours truly” was fortunate to win a trophy with his 1930 Roadster. Door prizes were also given throughout the afternoon. Another ballot was give to each participant to vote for his/her choice of the best car of the host club. Host club members were not permitted to vote. The car selected was a beautiful 1906 Cadillac.

Of interest to many folks was the FOR SALE of a 1930 Model A Roadster Pickup. It was sold within minutes of arriving. V P Buddy Pearce was removing his wallet to make the purchase when a gentleman from New Hampshire beat him to the draw!!! The sold price was $12,000.

Many cars were indeed rare, including a large 1932 Packard, a 1935 Chevrolet Suburban, a 1947 Nash Woodie, and a 1959 Chevy Impala Convertible. Many nice Model A’s were viewed by the large crowd in attendance. In an adjacent area were the beautiful carriages and horses which were also in competition.

The weather was perfect and the day’s activities were outstanding. Unexpectedly, however, “yours truly” ran out of gas on our way home. A big “THANKS” to Bill McClelland for driving me to the next station for ½ gallon of gas.

A big round of applause is extended to the Kingdom of The Sun Region for an outstanding show..

Project Car

Wanted: New owner for grandpa's car. The car is all original, everything is as you would expect for a 70 year old car. Might need upholstery. Family of mice will also need alternate living arrangements. The good news is the flood last year washed her out of the mud so you can see how much restoration her subrails will need. Non original horns. Might need engine work, and you'll have to bring your own set of tires to take her home. Concrete blocks included. Fenders rough. A real steal at $12,000, cash. Contact Mr. Samples, Jr. at BR-549 for additional information.

2008 Pictorial Directory

I am working on the new, improved and updated 2008 Pictorial Directory of our club. This one promises to be even better than last years! However, if you were NOT at the December banquet to have your photo taken, then I need your photo! I will have my camera at the February meeting in Clermont. So fix your hair, bring a hat and be ready, cause I'll be snapping your photo for the directory.
I hope to have everyones photo who has paid their dues this year, so if you didnt have your picture taken in December, and you can NOT come to the February meeting... PLEASE have a friend take your photo, with or without your A and send it to me by email or post mail ASAP.
You would make my life a little easier by making sure I have your photo!
Thanks - Sandi
